This story is so horribly tragic and so close to home, literally. Being a teen mom is extremely hard and losing a child is undoubtedly one of the hardest things a parent could ever have to endure. Being a mom and losing your two year old before you even hit your twenties, is beyond awful. Add to that, the person driving the car that hit your child leading to the loss of life, is that teen’s boyfriend. It’s unimaginable.
On October 14, 2026, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, that young mother’s life changed forever during what should have been an uneventful end to the night. At approximately 9:40 p.m., Chelsea police responded to a report of a toddler struck by a vehicle near 156 Bellingham Street.
According to investigators, the little girl and her mother had just been dropped off near their home by the mother’s boyfriend. Shortly afterward, the vehicle they exited struck the child. Police and firefighters rushed to the scene and attempted to save the toddler’s life. Emergency personnel performed CPR, and the child was transported to a hospital in Everett. Despite those efforts, she died from her injuries.
One minute, this mother was arriving home with her boyfriend and her little girl. The next, emergency vehicles were arriving, people were trying to save her child, and the boyfriend who had just dropped them off was suddenly at the center of a police investigation.
I can’t even imagine it.

Chelsea police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office investigated the incident. The man driving the vehicle, the young woman’s boyfriend, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Chelsea Police Chief Keith Houghton indicated that the evidence initially pointed toward a tragic accident, although the investigation was continuing. At the time of the reporting, no criminal charges had been announced.
Accidents involving small children can happen in seconds. Two-year-olds are quick, unpredictable, and have absolutely no understanding of how dangerous things are, including moving vehicles.
If this was the tragic accident police initially believed it to be, the boyfriend has to live with the knowledge that he was behind the wheel.

The little girl’s mother is Veronica Guerra. According to the fundraising page, Veronica’s cousin, Johana Argueta, organized the campaign to help cover funeral and burial expenses. The campaign explains that because Veronica is a minor, Johana will manage the donations on her behalf.
Being a teenager is hard enough. You're still figuring out who you are and what your future might look like. Veronica was doing all of that while raising a little girl. And now she's facing a loss that would devastate a parent at any age.
And of course, I don’t know Veronica, her boyfriend or her daughter. I don’t know the ins and outs of any of their relationships. But I do know that nobody should have to face this level of tragedy.
This was somebody’s little girl. A girl who had a whole personality developing, favorite toys, favorite foods, and little habits that made those around her smile.
And now Veronica and those that love that little girl have to figure out how to live without her.

There is something particularly cruel about tragedies that happen when people are almost home. Home is supposed to be the safe place. The destination where you can relax, shut the door, and be done with the day. Veronica and her daughter were right there.
I wonder if Veronica is asking herself whether there was something she could have done differently. I hope she isn't. But I know how easily parents can replay the smallest moments after something terrible happens.
I hope she has people around her who are carrying her through this. Holding her up during this unimaginable time. I hope the people investigating the accident can give the family as many answers as possible. And while answers won’t bring this girl back, not knowing exactly what happened can become its own kind of torture.
THE GOOD DEED
Veronica’s cousin, Johana Argueta, has organized a GoFundMe to help the family pay for the little girl’s funeral and burial expenses. The fundraiser is titled Support Veronica in Honoring Her Precious Daughter.
You can find it here:

If you’re able to donate, even a small contribution could help relieve some of the financial pressure on this family. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing the fundraiser or leaving a kind message can still mean something.
I know there’s nothing anyone can do to make this situation okay. No amount of money will replace Veronica’s daughter. No comforting words will erase what happened outside their home that night. But maybe we can help make sure that this young mother doesn’t have to worry about how she’s going to pay for her little girl’s funeral while she’s trying to survive this nightmare.
